Maximum Flows on Disjoint Paths

چکیده
We consider the question: What is the maximum flow achievable in a network if the flow must be decomposable into a collection of edgedisjoint paths? Equivalently, we wish to find a maximum weighted packing of disjoint paths, where the weight of a path is the minimum capacity of an edge on the path. Our main result is an Ω(log n) lower bound on the approximability of the problem. We also show this bound is tight to within a constant factor. Surprisingly, the lower bound applies even for the simple case of undirected, planar graphs. Our results extend to the case in which the flow must decompose into at most k disjoint paths. There we obtain Θ(log k) upper and lower approximability bounds.

Approximation and Complexity of k-Splittable Flows
Given a graph with a source and a sink node, the NP–hard maximum k–splittable flow (MkSF) problem is to find a flow of maximum value with a flow decomposition using at most k paths [6]. The multicommodity variant of this problem is a natural generalization of disjoint paths and unsplittable flow problems. Constructing a k–splittable flow requires two interdepending decisions. One has to decide ...
متن کاملThroughput-Optimal Flow Allocation on Multiple Disjoint Paths for Random Access Wireless Multi-hop Networks
In this paper we consider random access wireless multi-hop mesh networks with multi-packet reception capabilities where multiple flows are forwarded to the gateways through node disjoint paths. We address the issue of aggregate throughput optimal flow rate allocation with bounded packet delay guarantees for flows exhibiting both intraand inter-path interference. We propose a distributed flow ra...
متن کاملFinding Disjoint Paths on Edge-Colored Graphs: More Tractability Results
The problem of finding the maximum number of vertex-disjoint uni-color paths in an edge-colored graph (MaxCDP) has been recently introduced in literature, motivated by applications in social network analysis. In this paper we investigate how the complexity of the problem depends on graph parameters (distance from disjoint paths and size of vertex cover), and that is not FPT-approximable. Moreov...
متن کاملOn Fixed-Parameter Tractability of Some Routing Problems
Disjoint Paths is the problem of finding paths between given pairs of terminals in a graph such that no vertices are shared between paths. We analyze fixed-parameter tractability of several new Disjoint Paths-like routing problems motivated by congestion control in computer networks. In one model we are interested in finding paths between k pairs of terminals such that the first edge of each pa...
متن کاملMaximum Edge Disjoint Paths and Minimum Unweighted Multicuts in Grid Graphs
In this paper, we solve in polynomial time the maximum edge disjoint paths problem and the related minimum unweighted multicut problem in grid graphs. Let G = (V,E) be an undirected rectilinear grid and let L be a list of K pairs (source sk, sink tk) of terminal vertices of G. Each pair (sk, tk) defines a net. We assume that sources are on the upper horizontal line, sinks are on the lower horiz...
